The Io Moth Caterpillar

IoCTADid you know that the Io moth has venomous spines?

Io moths has two eyespots on each of its wings. The males are a bright yellow while the females are a reddish brown.

While adult moths are not a threat to anyone (and in fact don’t even eat), their caterpillars can be dangerous.

An Io caterpillar is bright green with rows of spines along its body. Even the smallest touch can cause the caterpillar to release its venom, resulting in extreme pain. Allergic reactions may require hospitalization.

Io moths can rapidly reproduce, which means trouble for your family. Small children may try to pick them up.

Be careful, they may blend in with plants. Call ISC Inc. today: 434-295-6565!
